The Nimbus 4D is the current open class super two seater design in production by Schempp-Hirth in Germany. It is the successor to the earlier 24.6
m Nimbus 3D. The six piece (26.5 m span)
Discus plan form wing has full span camber changing flaperons. It has a glide ratio of about 60. It's particular look with the triple taper
leading edge and forward swept wings is really graceful in the air. We at ICARE are very proud to
offer here four models at following scale: 1:8.5 (3.1 m span) sheeted
foam wing, 1:6.5 (4 m span) and 1:5 (5.3 m span) all glass super-scale reproduction,
1:3.75 (7 m span) sheeted foam super scale reproduction of this very high performance
glider.
The size of this glider makes it a good candidate to get
into scale soaring. As the kit comes with hollow melded wings, they are very accurately
reproduced. The cockpit comes with all main components like the instrument mushrooms,
seats, head rests done. The HQ
airfoil has very smooth flying characteristics. Even with this high aspect
ratio wing it can be launched from a hi-start, it likes it behind a tow plane for thermal
duration flying. It has a graceful thermalling capability, and the wings are strong to
withstand some abuse. Not suited for aerobatics though. Adequate construction of
the wings shows realistic flex and curvature in the air.
This is not a kit, the model comes completely built, and
ready for radio installation. Only a few hours are required, before you go to the field.
The wings are hollow melded as any other surface (rudder, elevator). Airbrakes are
installed and ready to be connected by the mean of a micro servo in the wing. The high
gloss, gel coated Fiberglas fuselage has the wing joiner carrying tubes and the rudder
control tube installed. Retract is installed and functional. A small package hardware and
building instructions are completing the kit.
Radio requirements are two micro servos for the ailerons,
two for the flaps and two additional micro servos for the airbrakes. Three regular servos
for the elevator, rudder and retract. An additional servo might be installed for aerotow.
