This Discus 2b is the latest standard class
(15 m) from Shemp-Hirth. It superseded the Discus with this new planform and tip
poly break. This new poly wing lead to better handling in thermals.
With a span of 4 m this 1:3.75 scale Discus
2b is one of our finest Super Scale gliders. The cockpit comes completely finished with control columns,
upholstered seats, seat belts, and many other scale details such as instrument
mushrooms complete with instruments. The
true to scale canopy is hinged sidewise and includes preinstalled working
sliding windows that allow access to the canopy locking mechanism. All that remains for the builder to do is add a scale pilot for
complete realism. The wings and all control
surfaces are of very accurate hollow-molded construction. The wing joiner is system is scale and interlocking like in our DG-600 (4-4.8 m)
or the Glasflugel 304cz. The well-proven HQ airfoil gives this fine model its smooth and versatile
flying characteristics. This model
is comfortable on a slope and can be winch launched but is at it’s best when
aero-towed. Its thermalling
performance is exceptional and the wings are sufficiently strong to withstand
some aerobatics. Like its
full-scale counterpart, the poly brake wing plan form looks
especially graceful and unique in the air and gives a very smooth handling.
For even greater scale
realism, an optional fully installed Self Launch system is available that will
allow for ROG takeoffs and multiple climbs to soaring altitude. The unit comes preinstalled, just behind the wing. Fuselage strength has been maintained by mounting the unit in a carbon
fiber box and using carbon fiber bulkheads for additional strength. The up-and-go unit itself is constructed of molded fiberglass making it
strong and light. Pre-hinged doors,
and a special servo to raise and lower the unit are included. This set-up makes this sailplane ideal for the scale flyer who does not
have access to aerotow. Call us so
we can recommend the motor, battery and speed controller combination that will
give you the performance you are looking for.
With the level of
completion of this glider, only a few hours of work are required before it will
be ready to take to the air. The
wings and control surfaces are hollow molded and completely finished. Airbrakes
are installed and ready to be connected to your servos. The high gloss, gel coated Fiberglas fuselage has the wing
joiner carrying tubes and the rudder control tube installed. As well, the
functional retract, tail and nose wheels, and a fully functional aero tow
release are installed. Decals are
applied. A small package of
hardware and building instructions complete the kit.
Radio requirements are two mini servos for the
ailerons, two mini servos for the airbrakes and four regular servos for the
elevator, rudder, retract, and tow release.
For
transportation and handling we have also available a molded transportation case.
Experience has proven that most damage to models are due to hangar rush during
transportation. This case will give the required protection to your valuable
model. It comes with a handle and two wheels assembly, to ease the
transportation around the field. It has two gas cylinders to hold the top open,
several molded bulkhead to received the fuselage and wings and hold them in
place.
This carry case is a replica of the
real transportation Cobra trailer. It
is suitable for most scale gliders in the 4.0 m
wing span range.
