The Kestrel is a nice scale reproduction of the T-tail glider produced by
Glasflugel and developed in 1968. There were about 129 units built till
1975. It was designed for open Class and actually a prototype for the current
18m Class. In the 70's several pilots established new records with it like a
2050km distance in wave over the Sierra Nevada
This model is excellent for aerotowing, and great for
thermalling, as it has nice flying ability. Stall is smooth and predictable. Able to
make stable turns without tip stalling. If you have access to a slope that permits you to
fly this glider, the flapped HQ airfoil gives you a very wide speed range with amazing
energy retention. You may even afford aerobatics.
This is not a kit, the model comes completely built, and
ready for radio installation. Only a few hours are required, before you go to the field.
The wings are hollow molded, with carbon and glass reinforcement. Completely finished,
live, hinged and with Teck spoilers installed. The
high gloss, gelcoated Fiberglas fuselage has the wing joiner carrying tubes and control
linkage installed. Tail surfaces are finished. A package of small hardware and a building
instruction are completing the kit.
Radio requirements are two micro servos for the ailerons, three regular servos for the
elevator, rudder and airbrakes. An additional servo might be installed for
aerotow. Also
optional is a retract wheel for perfect scale (included in all molded version).
